Lahore: Niazi Chowk-Mehmood Booti Ring Road complete
LAHORE: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi is expected to inaugurate the stretch of the Ring Road from Niazi Chowk to Mehmood Booti in a few days, officials in the Project Management Unit (PMU) told Daily Times on Saturday. The officials said the portion of the road had been completed with a cost of Rs 3 billion under the project’s ‘Package III’. They said the road’s official inauguration was being delayed because the chief minister was not available. The government has divided this northern arc of the Ring Road into 19 construction packages which include nine interchanges. The government has planned to complete the construction of 21.5 kilometres of the road in the current fiscal year. This first phase will also include 60 percent land acquisition. Three interchanges – the Niazi Interchange, Saggian Interchange and an interchange at the Khaira Distributaries – will also be completed this year. Officials said the government planned to complete construction of the first phase by December 2008 at a cost of Rs 64 billion. The first phase includes 43 km of the total road. It starts from Saggian and goes over Niazi Chowk, Mehmood Booti, Daroghay Wala, Lakhu Dar, part of the Grand Trunk (GT) Road, Harbanspura, Cantt, Burki Road, Airport Road, Bedian Road to Khaira Distributary near Chungi Amarsidhu on Ferozepur Road. mansab dogar
